View the account balance

  1. Sign in to the correct Steam account.
  2. Check beside the profile name in the upper-right corner.
  3. Or open the Steam Account Details page.
  4. Review the displayed Steam Wallet balance.

Redeem an unused Wallet Code

  1. Open the official code-redemption page.
  2. Sign in to the intended Steam account.
  3. Enter the unique Steam Wallet Code.
  4. Select Continue to add the value to the wallet.

Confirm recently added funds

  1. Check the email receipt for the transaction.
  2. Confirm you are signed into the purchasing account.
  3. Restart the Steam client.
  4. Contact Steam Support if funds remain missing after two hours.

Steam Gift Card vs. Steam Wallet Balance

An unused gift card or Wallet Code and a redeemed Steam Wallet balance are not the same thing.

  • An unused Wallet Code has not yet been added to an account.
  • After redemption, the value becomes part of that account’s wallet.
  • Codes are converted into the currency of the recipient Steam Wallet.
  • Steam Wallet funds cannot be transferred to another Steam account.

Steam Wallet Code Troubleshooting

The code is not accepted

Re-enter the code carefully. Common character mix-ups include 0 with O, Q or D; 1 with I; B with 8; and G with 6.

The retailer activation is delayed

A newly purchased retail code may take several hours to activate. Keep the physical card and matching purchase receipt.

Funds were added to the wrong account

Confirm which account received the funds using the email receipt. Redeemed wallet funds cannot be moved to another account.

The code is printed only on a receipt

Steam states that support cannot assist with codes printed directly on a receipt. Contact the retailer that sold the code.

IMPORTANT PROGRAM UPDATE

Physical Steam gift cards are being phased out

Steam says physical retail cards will not be restocked and expects retailers to run out by the end of 2026. Existing legitimate cards can still be redeemed, subject to applicable rules.

Sign in to Steam. The available balance appears in the upper-right corner beside the profile name and on the account page.

Can I check the value of an unused Steam code before redeeming it?

Steam does not provide a public pre-redemption value checker. The code’s value is added to the wallet when it is successfully redeemed.

Can Steam Wallet funds be transferred or withdrawn?

No. Steam states that wallet funds cannot be gifted, withdrawn or transferred to another Steam account.

Can I receive a refund for Steam Wallet funds?

Steam may allow a refund within fourteen days when the funds were purchased directly through Steam and none of the funds have been used.

Can existing physical Steam cards still be redeemed?

Yes. Steam says existing legitimate physical cards may still be redeemed even as the retail physical-card program is phased out.

What currency will the code use?

Steam states that a Gift Card or Wallet Code is converted into the currency of the Steam Wallet when it is redeemed.
